Help
Frequently asked questions.
The questions we hear most from prospective clients. If yours isn't here, give us a call, we like answering questions.
Getting started
01 How do I become a client?
Easy, book a free 20-minute call via the contact page. We'll discuss your situation, tell you whether we're a good fit, and send a fixed-fee quote within 24 hours. If you're switching from another accountant, we handle the handover so you don't lift a finger.
02 Can you take over from my current accountant?
Yes, and it's painless. With your permission we send a 'professional clearance' letter to your existing accountant, who'll forward your records to us. Most switches happen invisibly, you don't need to be involved.
03 Where are you based?
Our office is on Level 30 of The Leadenhall Building, 122 Leadenhall Street, London EC3V 4AB — a short walk from Bank, Monument and Liverpool Street. Most of our work is done remotely (cloud accounting + email/phone), but we welcome face-to-face meetings at the office by appointment, or at your premises. We also have a long-standing client base in and around Waltham Cross.
04 Can we talk in my language?
Quite possibly. Alongside English we work in Turkish, Urdu, Hindi and Pashto — the whole engagement if you like, from the first chat to the filed return. Many of our Turkish and Kurdish clients prefer to do everything in Turkish, and that's exactly how it works. Just say so when you ring.
05 Who do you work with?
Sole traders, freelancers, contractors, landlords, e-commerce sellers, restaurants and hospitality, healthcare professionals, tech startups, and trades. If your business doesn't fit one of those, we still probably can help, just ask.
Pricing & contracts
01 How are fees structured?
Fixed monthly fees, agreed in writing before we start. Sole traders from £35/month + VAT, Ltd companies from £125/month + VAT. Unlimited support is included; one-off projects (R&D claims, HMRC investigations, share schemes) are quoted separately.
02 Is there a minimum contract?
No. Our engagement letter has 30-day cancellation. We'd rather earn your renewal each year than lock you in.
03 What's the catch?
There isn't one. We charge fixed fees because it aligns our incentives with yours and means you can call us without watching the clock. The only thing not included is one-off project work, which we always quote upfront.
Services
01 Do you do bookkeeping or just year-end accounts?
Both, depending on your needs. Some clients keep their own books with our setup and training; others want us to handle weekly or monthly bookkeeping. We work in Xero for bookkeeping and use TaxCalc for tax submissions, a tight, reliable pairing we know inside out.
02 Can you handle payroll?
Yes, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly payroll for up to ~50 employees. Includes RTI submissions, payslips, pension auto-enrolment, P60s, P45s, statutory pay calculations, and year-end returns.
03 What about VAT?
Yes. Quarterly returns, MTD-compliant submissions, scheme reviews (flat rate, cash, margin), VAT registration/de-registration, EU OSS/IOSS for e-commerce, and Domestic Reverse Charge for construction. We quote based on transaction volume.
04 Do you do auditing?
Not at the moment. We don't currently offer statutory audits. Most small/owner-managed businesses don't need an audit (the threshold is £10.2m turnover), if you do, we can refer you to a trusted audit firm.
Tax basics
01 When is the Self-Assessment deadline?
31 January for online returns covering the previous tax year (which ended on 5 April). The 2024/25 return is due 31 January 2026; the 2025/26 return is due 31 January 2027. Payment is due the same day.
02 Should I be VAT-registered?
If your turnover is over £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period (current threshold for 2025/26), you must register. Below that it's voluntary, useful if you sell mostly to other VAT-registered businesses or have lots of input VAT to reclaim.
03 What expenses can I claim as self-employed?
Anything 'wholly and exclusively' for business: tools, equipment, professional fees, travel for work (not commuting), professional subscriptions, training that maintains existing skills, accountant fees, business insurance, and a portion of home office costs.
04 When does it make sense to go limited?
Generally around £30k–£40k profit, but it depends on your other income, whether you reinvest profits, and your long-term plans. We model both options for every prospective client and tell you straight.
Switching to us
01 What if I'm behind on years of accounts?
We can catch you up. We regularly help clients file multiple years of returns, negotiate with HMRC over penalties, and get back on top of things. The earlier you start, the better, penalties grow over time.
02 Will my data move easily?
Yes. If you're already on Xero, we just need access. If you're on QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Sage, spreadsheets or paper records, we'll migrate everything to Xero and keep all historical data so nothing gets lost.
03 How quickly can you take over?
Usually within a week or two. The professional clearance step (where we ask for your records from your previous accountant) takes most of that time. We can start work in parallel where possible.
